Let's start out with what may well be THE ugliest website on the Internet:

http://yvettesbridalformal.com/index.htm

Be sure to check out the portait section:

http://yvettesbridalformal.com/portrait1.html

And have the sound turned up -- you wouldn't want to miss the godawful inspiring music that accompanies each separate page. Heck, feel free to open up multiple windows at once for an enhanced experience!

In other news... LiveJournal is bringing back Basic Accounts. Sort of.

Sounds more like a variation on Plus Accounts to me...

Speaking of "variations", check out some examples of John McCain's "humor":

I'm a Canadian, so not voting for him isn't really a choice, but if it WERE a choice, I would definitely be selecting someone else.

And courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] angry_geologist... Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog!

http://www.drhorrible.com/act_I.html

One of the funniest things I've seen in a very long time.

Also via LiveJournal... [livejournal.com profile] flamingchords' blog goes BOOM after a post on the issue of abortion:

http://flamingchords.livejournal.com/206104.html

I agree with his sentiments, although the seventh paragraph could perhaps have been more diplomatically phrased. Then again, I believe that some people really DO look at women that way.

Later today I'm going over to a friend's house to help her prepare it for viewing. Washing windows and floors. There's no link attached to that particular concept. I'm just sayin'.

Hee, Dr. Horrible: just saw it last night and I am utterly in luuuurve with it! Joss Whedon is a genius, and the genesis of this little series is the kind of thing every writer dreams of (shoestring budget, labor of love, and it was also put together during the writers' strike...)

As to the journal entry from "flamingchords": I'm on the fence with the pro-life movement. I've met too many pro-lifers who I agree earned the title "fetus-huggers", since they seemed to care more about "OMG TEH UNBRON BAYBEEZ!!!!11111" than about, say, people considering suicide or who've wrestled with suicidal ideations. However, I'm with you on that second paragraph. There may be people like that, but not all pro-lifers think that way.

Normally, I avoid the subject for the most part, and when I do address it, I do remember that abortion is an ugly subject, and that people can be on either side for the best of reasons. I still disagree completely with the pro-life side, mind, but I can usually accept that not all of them are misogynist fetus-huggers, and that some of them genuinely care for the not-yet-children they are hoping to save. On the occasion that prompted that post, I was very pissed off. I won't go into the particulars, here -- those are a matter for my own LJ, not crowdog's.

Unrelated: your handle looks familiar. Are you the same Matrix Refugee who was on GAFF, way back when, before it got overrun with morons?

Hee, yep, that was me; too bad a great site like GAFF had to go to seed as badly as it did... I occasionally spork badfics on my personal LJ, but haven't had a chance to lately, due to time constraints.

I know the feeling. I occasionally scroll through [livejournal.com profile] weepingcock, which is still hysterically funny and hasn't seen an influx of fanbrats (knock on wood), but... I still miss GAFF. Granted, I usually don't have that kind of spare time anymore, even if GAFF were still as great as I remember it.

Thank goodness that Yvette's site is a joke. Has to be, if you click on the directions to Yvette's. The map is one big joke with buried treasure and what not all done in MS Paint.

As far as the thing on Flamingchords' LJ, I didn't want to get into it because it immediately turned into a semantics debate. I'd rather focus on the actual issue: hormonal birth control is not an abortifacient, and yet it's being conflated with abortion. That's not just dippy fundamentalism steeplejacking a government agency, it's dippy fundamentalism with really bad science, and the HHS ought to know better than to make such an argument. Not like that's a new thing with this administration, but still. Stupid, stupid, stupid.
