Vomitting all last night... we took him in to the vet this morning, and xrays revealed that he's constipated, as well as being dehydrated. 200 ml of lactated Ringers solution and one tube of Felaxin later, we were out the door, $254 dollars lighter.

I know it's a silly question to ask, but

WHY ARE THEY ALL BREAKING DOWN NOW!?!?!?

Like computers, cats seem to pick the worst possible time to stop working. :-P

So, we'll be administering a Ringers drip twice a day, force-feeding Micawber every 2-3 hours until he starts eating on his own, and be ready at any moment to rush him in to the vet if his condition deteriorates.

I don't know how much more money we can afford to spend on him. If surgery is necessary, that just might be the end of the road. :-(

Thank you, eastpath... at this point, all we can do is watch, wait, and give him supportive care. Believe me, I'm praying to Our Lady too!

Oh dear... Especially after Emmie had her spell of trouble there. Wonder if this is Micawber's way of getting back at you for having to put up with that "strange roommate"? I'll put in another word with St. Francis.

Thanks, MR! Every prayer is certainly appreciated. And perhaps it is his way of making us pay for upsetting his universe ;-)... the vet certainly thinks that's what started this in the first place.

Oh my goodness..Micawber is in my thoughts and prayers. You are right, cats do pick inopportune times to get sick..I remember Salem got the flu in September requiring emergency vet treatment(100.00 just for walking in ) and medication, totalling over 200.00. We would all spend the moon on them of course, but at the time i didn't have any money to my name and was just lucky enough to be able to borrow from my sweet boyfriend..
Micawber could still turn around. Keep thinking positive as hard as that may be and think healing prayer/magic.If he does need more treatment, some vets will let you pay in installments. I know Exclusively Cats has been very good about this in the past.
I also want to sincerely apologize for not returning your cat carrier MUCH sooner..I do still have it don't worry, i just feel terrible as i completely forgot that i did. I am at my mom's very frequently (possibly even today) and the next time i am i will drop it off as she's almost literally right next to your apartment block.
St. Francis of Assisi, we lift up Micawber to you. You who loved all the animals, please hold this dear member of Laurie's family in your arms and restore him to health. Amen.
I will light a candle for you, and Salem is saying his prayers for a fellow kitty too :)
Love,
Jill and Salem

Thank you, Jill, for that beautiful prayer... I cried when I read it, it touched me so deeply. :-)
