I was up all night laying flats on 12 pages of comics, so this might not be terribly coherent or enlightening, but heeeeeere goes:
Emmie has turned 180 degrees. She's become lively, playful, and affectionate again -- not to mention frustrated, inhibited, and generally PISSED OFF with the Elizabethan collar she has to wear for the next week. It won't let her lick her butt, the same butt I insist on applying hot compresses to every so often (thus making it WET). The abcess has dwindled to a slight swelling with a tiny red, quickly healing wound in its center, but Emmie's personal hell is destined to continue for several more days, regardless.
Since the vet said we could let her free to run with Micawber today, we did so -- and immediately discovered that in spite of having only been apart for three days or so, and even then only REALLY apart (as in Emmie actually being further away from Micawber than one closed door) for a couple of hours, the cats appear to have completely forgotten that they ever knew each other. Micawber is seriously freaked out, and keeps skulking away from Emmie and peering back over his shoulder at her as if she's an alien who might shapeshift and come after him at any moment. My husband thinks this is just because her general shape, with the Elizabethan collar, has changed. I think he's probably right, but also have a sneaking suspicion that cats might actually be stupider than I'd previously dared to contemplate.
He's taken refuge on high windowsills and in the catbed in the sunporch all day, *sigh*. Well, we'll see if he's smart enough to figure it out eventually...
Okay, time for more coffee.

Hehehehe
LOL
I would have to say that I would side with your husband on this one. It may also be because Micawber is confused as to what's wrong with Emmie, as cats can sense when others are ill(including humans..Salem was seriously freaked when i had the flu), and he can see his pal has to wear a strange collar and has a shaven behind, and wonders what the???#@$@#
I think he still remembers her, just maybe wonders if you tried to slip an Emmie imposter around...hope all goes well with the kitties and glad to hear Emmie is well on the mend!
