This year's holiday report...
Christmas Eve
I actually went shopping on Christmas Eve day in order to pick up a small gift for my mother that she could actually unwrap at dinner that evening (since we were putting an insert into her card with a picture of the ottoman she'd be getting at New Years). Amazingly there was almost nobody in the stores. After the massive crowds I'd endured in the week leading up to Christmas, this was a very pleasant change for the better.
Comes the evening, and we have a cab pick up my mother at her place, then stop at our place to ferry us all over to the Royal Crown Restaurant in downtown Winnipeg. The Royal Crown is a revolving restaurant on the 30th floor of Fort Garry Place, and is mega-posh.

Here's my mom, after opening the card that promised her an ottoman:

Here she is later in the evening, against the distant skyline:

And here's a shot of Winnipeg's Legislature building through the glass (though probably only Winnipegers or former Winnipegers will recognize it):

My mother loved the setting, the buffet dinner, and the leisurely coffee afterwards. And the total bill for three people came to around $70, including coffee and dessert. I'm hoping this won't be her last Christmas, but if it is, at least she had a terrific time.
Christmas Day
Presents! I got George a set of wireless headphones, since the cord on his old set was causing him persistant headaches when he was working at his art table. And George got me a lovely plush bathrobe AND a $50 iTunes music store card. Needless to say we were both very pleased with how things turned out!
Then off to Selkirk for Christmas Day with George's family. Much turkey, ham, mashed potatoes, and Swedish meatballs (among many other delicious things). Since I'd made a conscious decision not to count my carbs during Christmas Eve or Christmas Day, I simply enjoyed the food, though I found that my body definitely made it known when it thought it had had enough -- and that "enough" was much less than it would have been a couple of years ago.
Boxing Day
Slept in very late, then got up and actually exercised. George and I decided to go out to dinner and a movie, and were hoping for Casino Royale -- we bought our tickets in advance, but by the time we got to the theatre all the good seats were well and truly taken. Faced with the prospect of seeing the movie from almost a 90 degree angle to the screen, we decided to slip into another cinema in the multiplex and catch The Holiday (starring Jude Law, who's always easy on the eyes), then buy ANOTHER set of Casino Royale tickets and get better seats at the late show. By the time we got out it was well past midnight, and we'd been thoroughly movied-out.
The Holiday was pleasant enough, but very very fluffy. Casino Royale... meh. The action sequences were decent enough, but I'm not sure if I bought some of the character development they put Bond through (even if it is in the original novel).
Today
Painting the FASD comic and doing laundry.
Tomorrow
Finish the FASD comic. Go over to John and Susan's place for a post-Christmas pre-New Year's supper and gift exchange.
After That
My mother's place on Saturday with the ottoman (which we'll be purchasing that afternoon). Sometime before then, paint up a sample page for the Joe Staton project. Also hopefully get paid for the FASD comic.
Current Mood
Alternately elated/good and dragged-out/depressed. Probably just post-holiday turbulence.
Thank you and goodnight.
