Ugh. GRRRR. There's NO excuse for doing that to any shopkeeper or grandmother. Saying you're Christian not only doesn't cut it; it means tarring innocent people by claiming you and they agree on what compassion, tolerance and charity mean.
I'm glad the local Christian groups made a point of saying the people who did it were Not welcome in town, and made direct apologies and dialogue with the shopkeeper. Having something good come out of ill is never enough to make the ill better, but... it leaves hope open.
