I got up long enough to phone into Ipsos, cancelling my shift this evening, and then crawled back into bed and lay there feeling utterly miserable. When George went out to pick up some groceries, I asked to go with him, since I didn't feel safe being alone.
It's a good thing I did, because...
... our bank card wouldn't work. So we bussed down to the bank, and it turns out that Revenue Canada had put a court-ordered freeze on our bank account. As best we can figure out, this has to do with a request several months ago for GST payments that we don't even actually owe.
*beats head against nearest wall*
Amazingly, I did not collapse in a sobbing heap. Instead I asked the questions that needed to be asked at the bank, and found out that if we deposit another cheque we have in-house on Monday, the bank will pull out the $4000 dollars we owe and reinstate our account, hopefully by Wednesday or Thursday at the latest. So much for picking up another graphics machine this month. However, at least we WERE able to solve the problem, and after we fill in some taxation paperwork we should be entitled to most of that $4000 back anyway
The problem: We only have $35 in the house to last us until the middle of next week.
The good news: I've already purchased a weekly bus pass for next week starting Monday, and we have some bus tickets besides, so we can at least get around.
The potential good news: A client sent us a $60 money order for a cover we did.
The potential bad news: It's a Western Union money order, and it's made out to ICON Art & Design, which is not an incorporated company but simply the name we operate the studio under. Whether or not they'll cash it is really open to question.
"Take THAT!" says Life, seeing me feeling sorry for myself, and promptly slaps me into, well, next week.

They shouldn't be able to put a court ordered freeze on ANYTHING unless you *KNOW* about it. That pisses me the hell off... >.

I was very concerned when I read how badly the depression has been pummelling you lately. Now I'm much relieved to hear that you've stabilized a bit, and that the effect of the exercise seems to be kicking in so quickly. Please hang in there. I count myself as one of many people who would be deeply hurt by your loss. I believe you still have many gifts to give and receive in this lifetime yet. I know you find this hard to believe a lot of the time, but I'm not alone in this belief. You've touched a lot of people, and a good many of us are honoured to call you friend. I'm here for you. *hugz*

Hon, two words: money mart.
as expensive as they are and as much as they suck. i've used them a few times when really tight between checks.
You need:
1) proof of income
2) ID
3) a bank acct (and they don't care about the state of it, just that you have one).
You give them a paystub etc and you can get 80% of it til next payday, they take a post dated cheque and take it out of your acct later.
Yes, the intrest is nasty and it kind of sucks, but it gives you money as a fill in.

Sorry, I'm terrible with money, but unless you're in a position where you're going to be out of your apartment if the money doesn't materialize now, you're better off borrowing a little froma friend for groceries than going remotely near a sucky grubbing place like money Mart.
Seriously -- I'm near broke right now, but if you need a $50 or so to help you eat for the week, I'll give it to you. No deadline, no interest.
