The BBC is reporting that Obama has won 297 electoral votes.
*dances*
The popular vote is almost 50/50, but if I understand the system correctly, the USA has a new president.
*dances some more*
And the Democrats apparently have won the Senate. They're also well on their way to winning the House of Representatives.
Maybe now America will actually regain some prestige in the eyes of the rest of the world.

(no subject)
I watched the tail end of the acceptance speech and crowd-waving, and the crowd of happy, weeping, white and black and Latino and everything people... a once in a lifetime experience, and I added some tears to the general weepiness myself.
But while Obama was waving, and hugging his wife, and then his VP and his wife, and then the two girls and Biden's kids (?) and grandkids and other relatives came out onto the stage, young and very very old (Biden's mother, perhaps?) ....
... the whole time Obama's facial expression was that of a man who is going along with a children's party but still knows he has years of hard labour ahead of him.
May he be blessed, as his name ("Barack") means "blessing".
