I'm listening to a special on purity balls on TLC, and finding it very creepy. It's quite disturbing how, in my opinion anyway, these girls are being brainwashed away from the possibility of their own freedom -- coerced into signing away their sexuality until they sign the marriage contract, forbidden from finding the mate that is really best for them, and so forth. And the way that some of the fathers look at their daughters sets off MAJOR alarms for me: perhaps I'm seeing something that's not there because of my own background of sexual abuse, or perhaps I'm more sensitive to cues that are actually present.

The girls they're interviewing sound so brainwashed, so scared of sex, and so oppressed. It's truly sad.

I've been watching a few things on the topic, too, via Youtube. I find purity balls a nice ideal (no unwanted babies!) but in reality the kids last 4-6 months and then they're having sex. Lots of research has been done on the topic and it doesn't stand the test of time.

Overall the idea of the balls don't bother me. I cringe at the whole idea behind it though as I've seen up front the ignorance behind the anti sex attitudes.

Yes, kids. NOT KISSING while still being boned DOES cause babies. UGH.
