I just got off the phone with my gynecologist, who was nice enough to call me back because I was too stoned to really remember what he said to me in the recovery room.
The news is pretty bad: the fibroid that we saw in the ultrasound extends ALL the way through the uterine cavity, filling it up pretty much completely. The only two options open to me at this point are:
1) Hormones, which I already know I don't tolerate well, and
2) "Radical surgery", ie a hysterectomy.
On the positive side, everything else looked nice and clean and normal and he's not anticipating any problems with the biopsy.
I'll be going to see him for a follow-up appointment in November and we'll discuss my options (such as they are) at that point.
Well, color me disappointed -- and more than a little scared. :-(
