Remember that Saturday Night Live fake commercial about the birth control pill that let you have a period once a year?

Well, a commercial just flashed by on my studio TV that honestly had me wondering for a moment if TLC wasn't airing a similar parody ad. But no, it was real, and more than a little scary. So I followed the link they provided and found... well, see for yourself.

Say hello to Seasonique.

What’s different with SEASONIQUE® is that you take 1 birth control pill every day for 3 months instead of 3 weeks, so you have fewer periods than with a monthly birth control pill. Seasonique® is safe, effective birth control that gives you 4 short, light periods a year. With Seasonique® your period should last about 3 days. Also, your period should be as light as with a typical monthly Pill. Keep in mind you’re more likely to have bleeding and spotting between periods. This can be slight to a flow like a regular period and should decrease over time.

If you haven't already watched the video, do so now. I'll wait.

...

Don't you think that somewhere on the Seasonique site there should be a similar disclaimer: "Hold on to your f*cking hat!"

This can't be a good idea. Can it?

i've been forwarded countless emails about deaths caused by this, and other pills like it. i understand that for some, periods are hell and that this seems like a wonderful option, but dude. women are dying...

and yes, Seasonique scares me. As having one period a year would have some esthetic advnatage, our bodies are not wired that way. The hormones in this thing must be astronomical. ((Shudders)).
I see it as yet another way for us to move away from Earth and its' cycles, and to try and frame women's natural cycles as being gross and inconveient, rathar than magickal..
grumble grumble grumble.

My doctor put me on menstrual suppression because my hemorrhaging was having a bad effect on hereditary condition I have that makes it difficult for my body to make blood cells.

Be careful before you judge, eh?

Please allow me to clarify...

I did not intend to judge the validity of taking the birth control pill itself. I fully support ANY woman's ability to make the choices that best suit her reproductive and overall health.

Howvever, I DID find it curious and amusing that the commercial I saw on TLC was so similar to the fake SNL commercial.

I regret if you took it as insulting or judgemental in any way. That was certainly not my intent. I was just trying to "make a funny".

Try reading it over again from my point of view.

Don't take that personal. I'm serious.

I could do the same thing with my birth control if I wanted. I don't know why they are marketing a special brand for it, I find that to be weird/funny.
