Terri came and picked me up for lunch, and afterwards we went to my mother's place and took down those blinds as well as wrapped and packed some fragile stuff for Goodwill. Thanks to Terri's help, we got it done in about two and a half hours and left the place in a condition where I can walk in tomorrow morning with the movers at my heels and be good to go -- no further packing or cleaning or sorting needed.
There are holes in the walls where the blinds were mounted, but at this point, I'm going to say "fuck it". I have no idea how to fix them and am at maximum capacity processing the stuff I need to do at this point. The cost of repairing them can come out of the damage deposit, which I wasn't expecting to get back anyway. (I feel bad about leaving this for the caretaker/next people who rent the apartment, but the thought of doing anything above and beyond what I'm doing right now is enough to send me toward a panic attack.)
I'll need to pick up some more packing tape on Tuesday and... well, you can see my last post for the list of things that will be done on that day. Tomorrow night (Monday), Terri is going to stop by our place after work and take me to my mother's briefly, just long enough to pick up a couple of lamps that are going to her. I have a couple of nice things set aside for
bodi_kat as gifts for helping me; I do hope she likes them.
It was a productive day but a sad one. Sitting on the couch for a rest, I looked around the apartment where my mother had happily spent the last years of her life and marvelled at the process of wrapping up a person's existence. I think I'm still in denial -- I had some bad patches this afternoon, but I don't seem to be fully processing the fact that she is gone. Apparently that will come with time.
I did manage to get a lot of HB done after coming home this evening. Only nine pages left to hit my first-third-of-the-book target, and then I can invoice. I still haven't gotten the cheque for my 20-page TFTC story, which is worrisome, but I'll try to look into that tomorrow.
Back to the grind.

cleaning out a loved ones' home is always one of the hardest tasks. I wish you lots of strength and love. I am sorry we weren't able to make the memorial, but with all the wedding craziness, i'm sure you can understand. I hope you are well, feel free to call if you need me for anything.

A friend of my used to work in the apt. business and she would tell me all sorts of horror stories. Trust me on this, small holes in the wall really aren't that big of a deal. Minor wear-and-tear is expected and I really doubt it's going to ruin anyone's day. And even though you're cleaning, maintenance should come in after you and make everything spotless. (I've even heard of some places that automatically replace the carpet when a resident moves out.)
Oh, and if the holes still really bother you, I can tell you how to fix them. It's not difficult.
