Today's shift at Ipsos was more difficult than I'd anticipated. I was placed on a long and badly written survey, and only got two completes in a four-hour shift. *shakes head* I don't know how much longer I'll be able to continue doing this. George's response to that problem is "So don't!", but I hate giving up. I just don't know if I can handle the stress, which is bad for my diabetes in any case.

Speaking of which... after I got off-shift at 8 pm, I wandered into the downtown library to ease my aching heart amongst the book stacks. I came away with three books and a VHS tape about Type II diabetes, as well as another Richard Simmons video, Disco Blast-Off. I figure if he did one video I like, he MUST have more that would suit my tastes. I think I'll sit down tonight and watch all the Simmons videos I currently have in-house (4), rather than doing more painting on Marvel Masterworks. Give myself some easy downtime to de-stress after working so hard tonight. I can devote all day tomorrow to the Marvel job, and will probably feel better for having had the mental rest.

I said I'd mention the books I got out of the library yesterday, so... I renewed The Kitchen God's Wife, by Amy Tan, which I've been working on for a few weeks and find slow going, but still worth pursuing. First-time checkouts: When Someone You Love is Wiccan, by Carl McColman, which I finished last night and turned out to be a not-bad primer on the religion "for Concerned Friends, Nervous Parents, and Curious Coworkers", as per the book jacket; and Pagans and Christians, by Gus DiZerega, Ph.D, which I've only gotten about 15 pages into and seems good so far. Also noteworthy and currently at my bedside, though I first checked it out last week: The Great Mother, by Erich Neumann, a classic on the archetype of the Mother Goddess in history.

*puts aside any stressful or worrisome thoughts and goes off to immerse self in the cheeky good cheer that is Richard Simmons*

hi hon,
First of all i love Amy Tan, i haven't read the Kitchen God one yet, i read "The Joy Luck Club" and it is even better than the movie..i'm sure you'd like both if you havent' read/seen it yet.

Second, i hear you about ipsos. I used to work for a telemarking company (shudder) which is very different from surveys, but maybe George is right..it's NOT giving up if it's not healthy for you, sometimes we just have to consider all the avenues and remaining in an unhealthy job could be giving up on ourselves, in a sense.

Glad to hear you are doing better overall. We still have to do lunch one of these days ;) I know a great little place by my work that makes homemade soups, sandwiches, and salads...hint hint...hehehhe

;)

Ooh! Lunch! :-D

This coming week isn't so good for me (Marvel Deadline, and I already have a couple of appointments I have to fit in there somewhere), but the week after might be better. What day/time were you thinking of?

I'm sorry to hear that being back at Ipsos-Reid is putting you under so much stress. From what you've said before, you do seem to find the work rewarding some of the time. If you hate the idea of giving up so soon, give it another week or two. Maybe it will get easier. But if it doesn't, don't feel bad about dropping it. As you said, the stress is bad for your diabetes, and that's the last thing you need.

And, just a tip, did you know that you can renew library books online? All you have to do is go to http://wpl.winnipeg.ca/library/, click on My Account/Renewals, Login, click on Items Out, select the books you want to renew and click on Renew. If no one is waiting to borrow any of the books after you, you can rewew them this way as many times as you like. I know that there are probably times when it's better for you to get out of the apartment and do it in person, but I thought I'd mention it for those times when you're pressed for time and just can't get to the library during it's open hours.
