Today's shift at Ipsos was more difficult than I'd anticipated. I was placed on a long and badly written survey, and only got two completes in a four-hour shift. *shakes head* I don't know how much longer I'll be able to continue doing this. George's response to that problem is "So don't!", but I hate giving up. I just don't know if I can handle the stress, which is bad for my diabetes in any case.
Speaking of which... after I got off-shift at 8 pm, I wandered into the downtown library to ease my aching heart amongst the book stacks. I came away with three books and a VHS tape about Type II diabetes, as well as another Richard Simmons video, Disco Blast-Off. I figure if he did one video I like, he MUST have more that would suit my tastes. I think I'll sit down tonight and watch all the Simmons videos I currently have in-house (4), rather than doing more painting on Marvel Masterworks. Give myself some easy downtime to de-stress after working so hard tonight. I can devote all day tomorrow to the Marvel job, and will probably feel better for having had the mental rest.
I said I'd mention the books I got out of the library yesterday, so... I renewed The Kitchen God's Wife, by Amy Tan, which I've been working on for a few weeks and find slow going, but still worth pursuing. First-time checkouts: When Someone You Love is Wiccan, by Carl McColman, which I finished last night and turned out to be a not-bad primer on the religion "for Concerned Friends, Nervous Parents, and Curious Coworkers", as per the book jacket; and Pagans and Christians, by Gus DiZerega, Ph.D, which I've only gotten about 15 pages into and seems good so far. Also noteworthy and currently at my bedside, though I first checked it out last week: The Great Mother, by Erich Neumann, a classic on the archetype of the Mother Goddess in history.
*puts aside any stressful or worrisome thoughts and goes off to immerse self in the cheeky good cheer that is Richard Simmons*
