I saw something like this, but it was a guy's sample of animation. Cars were driving in the background and this Beetle transformed. It was uber cool :-D

Honestly? I have no idea, hence my trying to gather people's opinions ;-)... but personally, I'd say CGI. Or if real footage, at least heavily tweaked in a computer. There's just something about it that's too... polished, for lack of a better word.

Tis real :) Really real. I tell ya... I could go to the parkade where it was filmed and take a picture ^^

It was tweaked to hide logos and probably blend the car in and make it look more real when it was so much CG itself... ^_^
