Yesterday's DBT session was very rough: many people ended up weeping, and as usual the check-in was a bit like vomiting on command. There's nothing like going over the highs and lows of your past week while being called to account for your use of DBT skills at the same time. Not being permitted to talk about suicidal or parasuicidal behavior avoids triggering similar behavior in others, but at the same time can leave a real feeling of not being able to talk about the root causes of the symptoms. *sigh*

On the other hand, it was my day off from step training. Getting back to it today, I was impressed by the difference that just one day off makes; it does make it a bit harder to "get back on the horse". But at least it gave me time to recover from the sit-ups and push-ups of Tuesday, which had left me feeling quite sore.

I'm pretty sure I'm going to sign up for an "Introduction to Pottery" course through the Winnipeg Community Services Department. It lasts 10 weeks, costs $153.60, and includes basic hand building techniques plus some wheel work. The fee includes clay, glazing, and firing -- not a bad deal at all. Other noteworthy entries in their 94-page Leisure Guide catalogue (by section) include "Aboriginal Drum-Making" (Personal Wellness), "Nail Art" (Beauty & Body Care), "Landscape Painting/Drawing in the Park" (Fine Arts), and in the Cuisine catagory, "Fun With Garnishes" and the classic "An Evening with Chickpeas". For some reason, that last one always brings a smile to my face.

In other news... I'd like to recommend, to anyone interested in an evening of high-energy music and philosophy, that tuning in to [livejournal.com profile] he_dreams_awake's nightly broadcasts on Radio Zero-One is a good bet. Regardless of whether or not you agree with what he has to say -- and some of it is quite intriguing -- he's always open to discussing it via AIM (he gives his username during the broadcasts) or email, and I personally agree with his ideals of compassion, egalitarianism, and the equal rights of all sentient creatures, including upcoming artificial intelligences. He's on most nights at 11 pm CST. This reviewer gives it four stars. ;-)

That's funny, I was thinking about exactly the same thing yesterday. I used to go to pottery classes as a kid, and I loved it. And I saw an interesting TV report on a style of French pottery known as "faïence d'Apt" which is really beautiful. It's made with a mix of several types of clays, and it looks a bit like Japanese paper.

Perhaps it's because there's so little one can do with chickpeas that it's interesting that there can be a whole evening devoted to them :)
