Today's eye doctor appointment had some pleasant surprises. Now that I'm a diagnosed diabetic, the cost of eye exams is covered by Manitoba Health. A much cheaper peripheral vision test (which they recommend diabetics have with their annual eye exam) is not, but when I took it today it showed normal peripheral vision, with no diabetes-associated degeneration. This is a great relief.
The not-so-pleasant surprise: my new (stronger) prescription puts me out of the cheap lenses price range. My new set cost $260. The clinic that won my loyalty by being so good with my husband and fixing my broken glasses doesn't stock the cheaper polycarbon lenses -- it's Nikon all the way, and $260 was the thicker, cheapest option for the delicate round John Lennon frames I picked up on eBay a few months ago.
The eye doctor also recommended I get a dilated pupil test for retinal detachment, since I have some "floaters" in my vision and both the diabetes and my current prescription put me into the higher risk catagory for this unfortunate event. *makes note to self to book one within the next month or so*
But the new eyeglasses will be ready on Wednesday! I know it's childish, but the prospect always makes me smile and I haven't had a new set in seven or eight years. I'm doing my best not to stress over the price and to be pleased at how lovely they'll look, plus the Nikon lenses are apparently of better optical quality than the polycarbons I got previously.
Now, on to the air conditioner. Remember, the one that's been leaking all over the floor and doesn't seem to read the ambient room temperature correctly? (If it was 90 degrees Fahrenheit in here on Saturday night, I'm a French Poodle.)
The service technician came by this afternoon while I was at the eye doctor. He opened the machine up, poured water into various parts of it, etc, etc, etc.
The damned thing
WOULD
NOT
LEAK.
Nope! It hummed away and cooled the air, just as good as gold. >.<
It hasn't leaked any water since, either (except when George lifted it and tilted it slightly when I was putting fresh newspaper underneath it -- better safe than sorry). I am, however, highly suspicious of its newly exemplary behavior.
More news as it develops.
ETA: NOW, of course, it's leaking. *insert various unsavory words and phrases regarding the nature and parentage of said air conditioner*
I guess tomorrow I call the service shop back... or, if they refuse to come out a second time, call another Danby-authorized servicer, if I can find one in Winnipeg.

(no subject)
And the air conditioner *WOULD* be on it's best behavior when you get it looked at!
**punts the AC politely**
Thanks Crow-Joe....
