Canada approves same-sex unions! *cheers*

Folks, I am mighty proud to be a Canadian right now.

Yep, mighty proud indeed!

We join the Netherlands and Belgium as the third country in the world to officially recognize same-sex unions.

Although gay marriage is already legal in seven provinces, the bill grants all gay and lesbian couples equal legal rights to those in a traditional union between a man and a woman.

Honestly, this might be the best national news I've heard all year.

*passes out champagne, rainbow confetti, and cake*

The Netherlands and Belgium are the only other countries to officially recognize same-sex unions.

In France, we have civil unions (called PACS), opened to both gay and heterosexual couples. You have practically the same rights as with a marriage, but getting divorced is way easier.

Though I add that I'd like it if there was something more marriage like in France.
