Although gay marriage is already legal in seven provinces, the bill grants all gay and lesbian couples equal legal rights to those in a traditional union between a man and a woman.

In France, we have civil unions (called PACS), opened to both gay and heterosexual couples. You have practically the same rights as with a marriage, but getting divorced is way easier.
