My friend Terri was nice enough to come along with me on Tuesday night for the last henna class and let me practice on her.

Here's the result )

I'm pretty happy with it. The class instructor is willing to have me work with her in the future, for a rate of $25/hr on prepaid parties and for 25% of the profits at a pay-per-tattoo event (she provides all the supplies, henna, etc). This would be super-faboo.

Almost forgot to include another piece of big news from the weekend... my friend John dropped by while I was at the con and presented George with a bike he'd found, for my use. It's VERY tall, and I'll have to see if adjusting the seat will help, but if it does, yay! I have a bike!

I couldn't make a journal entry last night because my left arm, from fingertips almost to the elbow, was wrapped in bandages to protect the tattoos I made during the class. My second attempt at henna:

Smooshed, because I used my scanner to take the shot )

Smooshed because I used my scanner to take the shot. As you can see, the palms stain MUCH darker than the forearm. I'll have to see how it darkens up over the next couple of days.

I've decided that yes, I am going to Keycon 23 this weekend. I haven't been in a couple of years, and maybe it will help to cheer me up somewhat to be in that boisterous crowd called "sci-fi fandom". I'm planning to go down and pick up my membership tomorrow afternoon, which will leave me clear to walk onto the convention floor and get right down to it on Friday night. Some programming items I'm particularly looking foward to: the Ice Cream Social, where the con guests pass out free ice cream to the attendees; "Robots: Friends or Foes"; the belly dancing how-to panel; the ever-entertaining Masquerade; as well as some gaming items, including the Sleeping Dragon suite (which will be devoted to gaming), a round of "Call of Cthulu", and, for four hours on Saturday, an AD&D 2nd edition event.

Heh. My fandom hormones have already started flowing! A whole weekend with nothing to do but wander around, have fun, and maybe help out with Art Show set-up and tear-down if I have the whim to do so. That's something I haven't had in the longest time, and now is one of the times when I need it most. I won't have a lot of money to spend at the con, but no doubt will have a good time nonetheless.

This afternoon, George and I took my mother out for dinner at Tavern in the Park, an upscale restaurant at Assiniboine Park. The view was gorgeous, as was the quality of light (it was sunny and the entire ceiling is panes of glass), and the service was absolutely first-rate. It was her 70th birthday, as well as our Mothers Day get-together, so I counted the money as very well-spent! She liked her gift, too, an Orthoceras fossil plate containing three shells of the prehistoric cephalopods (the linked image isn't the actual one we gave her, merely a representative sample).

Tonight I have to flat a Star Wars cover for Doug Wheatley, and hope to get some more Marvel Masterworks done as well. And I've exercised already. Yep, I've been a busy girl...

Well, the first I've ever done myself, anyway:

Image behind the cut )

You can see where I didn't apply the henna quite properly around the dragon's flank area. The Japanese character means "strength".

Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] cockatiel_art for taking the photo. :-)
