I've lost one of our sets of keys. Yes, the set that has the mail key attached. >.<

I took it with me to check for mail when I put the laundry on last night, and when George went looking for it half an hour ago to take with him as he did errands, it was nowhere to be found. I've turned the apartment upside down. No sign of it.

I could have left it in the mailbox; I wasn't feeling very well yesterday, and it might have slipped my mind. When I went downstairs just now to check with the caretaker (not home), I stopped at the mailboxes, and mine was open.

*headdesk, repeatedly*

A phone message has been left for the caretaker, who works days. Hopefully when she gets home she'll have some good news for me (that the keys have been turned in).

I am so fucking stupid. And a loser. And stupid again. If we have to get the locks replaced...

Argh, that sucks. I really really hope they show up for you.

You're not stupid or a loser though. Not unless, like, every other person on the planet is too.

Thanks... I KNOW that just about every person on the planet has lost their keys at some point. It's just that when I'm entering the shadow of depression, it feels like I'm the ONLY person in the world who has ever done something stupid.

No, not stupid. No, not a loser. Just a human being, like all of us. Me, I'd forget my head if it weren't attached, not to mention other body parts.

Back when I was still working, I had three sites I supervised. My office was at one site, and I visited the other two sites at least once a week. During one of these visits, I managed - don't ask me how - to lock my keys in the trunk of the car. These included not only my house keys, but building keys. Neil had a set of keys, but he was not there, of course, and had no way of getting there. I called our road service (AAA - I think it's CAA where you are) and had a locksmith come out. He looked at our car and said, "Well, a Maxima. I've never been able to get into one of these before." My heart froze. Ordinarily, I'd've been delighted to hear that our car was burgle-proof, but NOT when La Dummy (me) had locker her keys in the trunk! The locksmith finally did manage to get the car open so I could pop the trunk and retrieve my keys, but... *sigh* I felt so dumb.

*hugs* Be kind to yourself. You're a super-special and wonderful person, and you deserve it.

You are *NOT* stupid. You made a very human mistake that everyone has made at some point or another.

Trust me, you are not stupid or a loser. Everybody has "key" moments of one kind or another from time to time. In fact, in my family I'm somewhat notorious for locking myself out of the house. When I bought a purse a couple of years ago, one of its big selling points for me was that it had a sewn-in clip for my keys. As long as I kept the keys on the clip and took my purse with me when I went out, I was sure to have my keys with me. Of course, this didn't help me the one time I just wanted to go out into the back garden and unthinkingly closed the door, which locks automatically, behind me. D'oh.

Oh, my. I hope you didn't have to wait too long for someone to come home to let you back in, re: the back garden...
