I had to be at my mother's place -- an hour's bus ride away -- for 8:30 am this morning. I thought George was going to wake me up at 6:30. He apparently thought I'd set the alarm. Result: I got up at 6:50 and took an extremely panicked shower.

As I was scrubbing hastily, George suddenly knocked on the door and stuck his head into the bathroom: "You just got a big cheque yesterday... why don't you take a cab?"

Thank you, God, yes, please. I got to my mom's on time, had the cab wait until I got her downstairs, then went to the Grace Hospital for a 9:15 am CAT scan of her brain. We had time for a bit of lunch before we had to walk over to the Assiniboine Clinic for her 10:50 appointment with her GP. (On the way out of the hospital we passed a table with some adorable little gifts on it, and I picked up one for a friend's new baby... I can't say what it is, though, in case she reads this!)

Somewhere along the way, my mom thought she'd lost $100 of $200 I just loaned her today. Panic and frustration -- and, in my case, outright anger -- ensued. My mother has the habit of shoving money in any number of places, which in a case like this leads to me almost screaming. We found it in the end, but it was a VERY unpleasant 20 minutes until we did (stuffed into a plastic baggie which she'd transferred from her purse to another bag).

I went back to her place with her to replace a couple of ink cartridges in her computer, and then -- extremely stressed out -- took my leave as quickly as possible. On the bus I had a mini panic attack which I managed to get under control, mostly, before getting off downtown and going into Warehouse One to pick up a new pair of jeans (desperately needed, especially with Keycon coming up this weekend). On the way back home from downtown I made a last-minute decision to get off in Osborne Village and hit the Safeway there, where I picked up a few bags of groceries before calling (another) cab home.

Whew. George should now be set with food for the weekend. I just have to wash some clothes tonight and finish up the MM pages, then do some packing of supplies for the Wicca 101 panel I'll be doing at Keycon on Sunday.

Tomorrow I will probably be meeting some folks from the Black Ring line for lunch; they're in town from out west for the Gaia Gathering Canadian National Pagan Conference, which I'll admit I threw over this year in favor of Keycon (which has marginally more interesting programming and more attractions in general).

But I still have to get through today first. It already feels like I've been awake for about a week.
