I just received a reply from my editor, which read in part:

Don't sweat [the job]. There's still lots, lots of wiggle room in the schedule. If we're ever on a hard-and-fast deadline I'll always be very clear about it. This isn't one of those cases, so please don't worry about funnybooks. Even a little bit.

Spend time with your family, and please, take care.

*falls over with relief*

I am so lucky to have two editors who have been understanding about how my mother's six-months-or-less prognosis has impacted my ability to create. Hopefully as time goes on I'll be able to cope with it better. Right now, I find my mind keeps wandering to all kinds of questions -- will she get the apartment in my building? how/when will I need to arrange for palliative care? what will her last days be like? -- when I really should be concentrating on work, and it's very hard to stay on-track.

I thought all editors are soulless abominations that eat babies and puppies for breakfast! have you been lying to me all these years?

Glad your Editor is so understanding. I have the Monday thru Wednesday off after the con so if I can help on the flatting in any way let me know.
