Yesterday I went over to a friend's house to help them clean it prior to showing it to potential buyers starting today. We worked hard for about four hours, and one of the biggest thorns in our sides were little... specks... of paint... EVERYWHERE. The painters, who came in early last week to spruce the house up for showing, hadn't laid down dropcloths before they started. GAH! And even when they were caught painting without dropcloths and told to start using them, they didn't. Bastards.
For the record, the name of the company is College Pro Painters, and they're a continent-wide company. I phoned them today to register a complaint (since some of the paint damage was on hardwood that my friend had kept immaculate for years and which may now be ruined). The local manager phoned me back within twenty minutes of the filing of a complaint form by a customer service agent, and I informed him that I intend to tell everyone I know about the sloppy and incompetant job his people did. When he asked what could be done to make the situation better, I told him flat out: Give my friend a rebate and see that the painters are disciplined.
We'll see if any of that ends up happening. In the meantime, remember their name and think twice about hiring them would be my advice. Or if you do hire them, watch them like a hawk.
