Yesterday: In the afternoon I ran down to Quagga to pick up the front door key. That evening, [livejournal.com profile] cockatiel_art came on over and we watched some shorts from the "Patriotism" DVD in the Educational Archives series, as well as The Triplets of Belleville, an anime called Ghostsweeper Mikami (definitely not highly rated, though somewhat amusing), and the last two Matrix movies.

Today: Up at 8 am to go in for an opening shift at Quagga Stray-Cat Rescue. *yawn, creeeeeak, yawn* Thank God I'd brought in a coffemaker a couple of weeks earlier! Some of the kennel volunteers were late, which put the entire cleaning schedule for the cages behind, and all three of them were gone by 1 pm, leaving me with a full hour completely by myself before the afternoon store volunteer arrived. (Time in which to make a significant inroad on Progressive Witchcraft. Meh. Some of it I agree with so far, and some I don't. Perhaps more on this in another post.)

I bought a $2 discounted cup from the sale rack so that people who want to use the coffeemaker will actually have something to drink the coffee IN. I also handled a wide variety of situations all on my own -- an adoption (pre-approved), someone wanting to spent gift coupons, a man returning a cat trap, and fielding various calls from the public about where we are and what we do. By 1 pm I was pretty tired... and so were the kennel cats, who, having meowed, scampered, and generally kicked up a ruckus with the kennel volunteers, promptly went fast asleep when they left. Yes, all 30 or so of them, simultaneously curled up nose-to-tail in their cages or sprawled unconscious on various mats, blankets, and cat-trees. Hee... it was actually very amusing to go into the back and seem them all zonked out at once!

Then off to Dr. S, my psychiatrist. Report, yes, the exercise is working, yadda yadda, and yes he'll do a note for Ipsos-Reid authorizing 4-hour shifts to start. Get a prescription and I'm out the door in 10 minutes flat. Sometimes it's nice to have an appointment that doesn't involve me ripping open my guts so we can try to read my entrails.

Home again, home again... George handled the insurance agent while I was out. We ended up getting two univeral life policies with a $100,000 value each, for a total of $190/month for the two of us, with the rate guaranteed until we reach the age of 100. Then when I got home (after a computer tech came and installed more memory in the 6500/200 as well as took money for a new DVD drive) we ended up discussing a possible new contract from a comic artist asking for color samples. The problem: he only pays $50 US/page. The payoff: he works for a company that has a number of prominent artists and creators, and it would be a foot in the door. Regardless, we can't submit samples until next week -- George would be doing the main painting, and he's tied up doing a Heavy Metal story until next Thursday or Friday. Hopefully the comic artist in question is willing to wait.

If not, well, I just received my contract from Marvel Comics regarding the re-rendering of color on the Marvel Masterworks series. Between that and Hardy Boys, we should have bread-and-butter money for a little while.

Oh, I almost forgot the strangest and most wonderful thing that happened today: I found Micawber's double. "Bruno" was in the free range room at Quagga, and aside from being on a slightly smaller scale than Mic and having a notch cut out of his left ear, he could be his twin: same facial structure, same build, same markings. He also had what looked like a nasty eye infection starting, which I informed the afternoon volunteer about. Hopefully he can get some medication stat.

This evening I have to print out basic ritual outlines for...

Tomorrow: Kathy's wiccaning ritual for her two children. She'll pick me up and bring me (and the ritual carpetbag stuffed full of goodies) to her house, then give me a lift home afterwards. I'm High Priestessing the ceremony, which should be interesting since I've only heard it described over the phone... but hey, I'm in the mood for a challenge.

Yick. Getting up at 8 am sure takes it out of you by 9 pm. :-P A couple more hours, and then off to bed.
