NAME: Caliban
SPECIES: Sidhe/Agent
AGE: 278 years old
SEX: Male
HISTORY: From the beginning, the Agents and the Exiles known as the Sidhe have been bitter enemies. The touch of Sidhe steel can lock an Agent into a single host or kill him outright, and the Agents are relentless in crushing the Sidhe whenever they can: like the elves of legend, the Sidhe have the nasty habit of stealing human children, or inviting a mortal into their realm and releasing him only to discover that a single day in their realm equals years, or decades, in the Matrix proper. None of this is good for maintaining the illusion required by the System.

The Sidhe, for their part, sometimes take prisoner the Agents they wound. One such program, an Exile himself, was captured and came to the attention of a Sidhe woman named Oriella, the sister of Oberon, the Sidhe leader. One look at the Agent and she was consumed with the desire to taste forbidden fruit. Like any Sidhe woman worth her salt, Oriella was fully capable of charming the guards assigned to the Agent into slumber, and then sneaking into his cell and offering him a simple bargain: lie with her, and she would set him free. The Agent, a former Command unit, accepted her terms.

Unfortunately for both of them, they were caught together. The Agent was summarily killed, but Oriella was Oberon's sister, and he spared her life.

More unfortunately for Oriella, the mating proved viable.

Tragically, she died in birthing the result. More tragically for the half-blood child, whom Oberon named Caliban, he survived, and was forced to coexist with people who would have happily seen him dead -- but there are too few Sidhe as it is, and Oriella's last plea to her brother was that her son be cared for. She intended that Oberon take Caliban into his own hold, but neither Oberon nor his Queen, Titania, could bear the thought of Agent-spawn living under their roof. Instead he was passed from woman to woman until he was weaned, and then more or less abandoned to make what living he could on the fringes of the Court.

Caliban, however, had no intention of remaining in the shadows. Even as a child he possessed an iron will, and as he grew it became apparent that he had inherited his mother's wit and his father's cunning -- as well as an Agent's speed and strength. By the time he reached adulthood he had negotiated and outright fought his way to a place in the warrior's brotherhood, where, as the decades passed, he learned the arts of combat and of Court intrigue. Though the full-blood Sidhe considered him half-monster and no woman would lie with him, Caliban eventually earned a measure of grudging respect from his 'people', even being taken in for training by the highly valued Sidhe smiths, though he never passed journeyman rank.

When the Alliance was formed, Caliban immediately saw a new possibility: the chance to leave the ranks of the Sidhe, where for centuries he had been forced to remain for the sake of the protection their fellowship afforded, and strike out on his own. This is a secret that no one else knows yet, since (typically) he is biding his time and playing his cards close to his vest.
