Yesterday:

My first volunteer shift at Quagga Stray Cat Rescue, where they all seem like very nice people and I had the amusing experience of wading into a sea of cats in the "free range" rooms, all meowing insistantly because of course it was first thing in the morning and they wanted to lodge a complaint about NOT having been fed yet. The store cats, both elderly, were friendly and lovable, and the job managing retail sales, adoptions, and incoming calls isn't TOO bad, or at least it wasn't this particular day. I've elected to do one more shift with a supervisor before deciding if I'm ready to go solo or to transfer to the kennel end of the operation.

I picked up a couple of more things for [livejournal.com profile] eastpath's gift package, which is now ready to be shipped, and spent some of the $50 my mother gave me for Christmas on a Bast statue.

It's cold cast porcelain and stands 8 1/4" tall. The version I bought is identical to the picture except that it also has gold detailing around the eyes and inside the ears, and an "antiqued" gold base. It's not quite the style of statue I would have normally chosen, but ALL the proceeds go toward the cats at Quagga (since Quagga has no paid staff), so I felt the Goddess would approve of it as a choice to represent Her. ^_^ At the next Full Moon ritual I'll consecrate it properly and it will be ready for use on my altar.

In the evening George and I went over to John and Susan's for dinner, which was lovely, and later walked with them a few blocks to a local park where, across the river, we could see the New Years fireworks at the Forks. A beautiful display... then back to their place again for REAL mincemeat tarts (with beef and suet and currants and everything) and tea. Susan is a terrific cook. :-)

Today:

Got up to find that George bought my present yesterday and had it wrapped and ready for me on the coffee table. It turned out to be this:

What an amazing load of video goodies! All three Matrix movies, plus 35 hours of additional features... I'll be happy for days watching it!

Later this afternoon we went out to Selkirk for New Years Day at George's sisters place. Aside from one of my sisters-in-law insisting on saying grace before anybody could eat (she's a Born Again and firmly believes that she's saving our souls), which was a minor annoyance, we had a very pleasant time visiting with relatives we seldom see aside from major holidays. I was also introduced to Cadbury orange-flavored milk chocolate. Mmmmmmmmmm. Not necessarily a good thing. ;-)

I think I'll spend tonight on the couch, drinking tea and eating chocolates (hey, Christmas comes but once a year!) and happily going through some of my new Matrix video material, and I'll probably go to bed early. Tomorrow I have to buckle down and really throw myself at the Hardy Boys, but that's another day, isn't it?

SQUEEE!!!!!!1111111 You got 'The Box'!!

Ooh yessh! You've got tons of good stuff in that. Be sure to watch the "Reloaded" featurette on the Exiles, as well as the stuff on the "Burlyman Chronicles" disk: there's some hysterical behind-the-scenes antics there (including, but not limited to, an unusually short Smith, and a prank involving Geoff Darrow's pants).

**Steals a bit of chokkie while everyone drools over 'THE BOX' (UBER cool, BTW!!), then pets the statue of Bastet.
