Water -- and fire!

The hot water is back on.

Unfortunately, the apartment is also filled with smoke -- because, accidentally, I turned on the wrong burner on the stove when heating up water. (We don't use the left side of the stove at all as a rule, just to give you context, and maybe make me look marginally less stupid.) A plastic trivet that was resting on said burner caught fire, and the place was quickly filled with choking white smoke.

Fortunately I managed to douse the fire, open the windows, and turn off the shrieking smoke detector before TOO much damage was done. The stove is fine. The trivet, on the other hand, is a complete loss. And the stench is terrific.

*sighs again*

Off to take an antihistamine -- and a shower.

ew burning plastic. You might need FEMA more than an antihistamine.

Got cats? Wait till one of them investigates your stove while it is burning one day, and you're in for another olfactory treat.

Sorry to hear about the trivit.
I did something worse than that ..i once set a margarine container aflame on the stove by turning on the wrong element LOL.

Hola.. *hugs* Can I drop off box of tea to your back door tomorrow after I'm off work? :) I get off at 3:30... ^^ I have to go see my artist for touch ups so I can't stay, but I'd like to sneak in a quick hug, just in case we don't get to see each other again before I go. I'm off work 3:45 Tuesday if that would work better instead... :)

Do you mean 3:30 on Monday at Starbucks? That would certainly work...

If not, 3:45 Tuesday would work a lot better for me, actually, since I just got your message (our phone service was knocked out for most of today (Sunday)... no idea why).

Meeting on Tuesday would also give us (hopefully) a few moments to share a last cup of tea and some company before you have to rush off to finish packing. :-)

Actually I'd love to go to Roca's (now "In the Interim") if that's cool. They have good food too, if that was the reason for the Nikos suggestion :)
