Gay Rights

"Why is it that, as a culture, we are more comfortable seeing two men holding guns than holding hands?" - Ernest Gaines

We would like to know who really believes in gay rights on LiveJournal. There is no bribe of a miracle or anything like that. If you truly believe in gay rights, then repost this and title the post as "Gay Rights". If you don't believe in gay rights, then just ignore this. Thanks.

An if you're okay with gay rights, but LJ memes make you want to bite the heads off small children...?

Absolutely and fully.

There'ce been several responses to this meme to the effect that the langiuage in it is tantamount to coercion and the same kind of pressure that groups like Gay rights activists object to violently when it's used against them; basically, it's a version of the childish manipulation, "if you really love me..."

(And that other than coercion and manipulation, it doesn't do anything practical.)

Since several of the people who've objected to the meme are people who've given me the impression they're stronger rights advocates than some people who have used the meme (Not meaning you, Laurie, you put your money where your mouth is and that's definite), I determined that the number of people on my friendslist who've seen the meme for sure but haven't posted this message means absolutely nothing. (Let's see: Pamela Dean, who's in public, positive, and known polyamorous relationships. Papersky and truepenny, whose books (and friendslists) contain multiple positive gay role models and other realistic gay characters. Huh.

"Who really believes in Gay rights on Livejournal."

The people whose journals and other works have pretty much proven it. The people who write letters and march in gay pride parades and don't feel embarrassed in the least about friends (or actions) outside normal gender boundaries.

I believe in gay rights, but I object to being told what to post on my LJ to prove what I believe.
