I just got back from a quick trip out of the house (going stir-crazy again), with a Subway tuna sub on brown (extra meat) and a sugar-free vanilla iced soy milk latte from Starbucks. It's great having both stores only a half a block from our apartment building. Even on a day like today, when I'm feeling fairly shitty physically, they're still within reach.

I believe it was Louis Black who so eloquently pointed out that "soybeans don't have titties!", so the term "soy milk" is a bit disingenuous. I don't know that much about soy juice, but I'm willing to bet that it's a lot better for me in the fat department than cow's milk, and hey -- I actually like the taste, although how good a soy milk latte is varies from chain to chain. For example, the ones made at Starbucks are yummy (although I can't stand their coffee products otherwise) and the ones made at Second Cup are hideous (although I otherwise find their coffee palatable, if not quite up to the standard set by Tim Hortons). The two chains obviously use different brands of soy products.

Apparently soy protein is also good for Type II diabetics, with a protective effect against kidney damage. Or so I've read. I'll have to ask the diabetic dietician about that the next time I see her.

Oh, and guess what showed up on our doorstep (literally) today? A DVD from Columbia House, specifically The Spiderwick Chronicles. Gah! I missed one of those little "send this in or else you get to pay for a video" cards. Ah, Columbia House, you are an albatross around my neck! Yea, verily, the first five movies we got from you for a ridiculously low price were wonderful, but ever since then you've created more paperwork and worry in our lives. *shakes fist impotently in the general direction of Ontario*

Okay. Back to work.
