Happy New Year to everyone! Here's wishing you all the best in 2004, and a great end to 2003 (only 25 or so minutes away up here in Winnipeg)...

My evening, which I'd expected to while away at home doing pretty much nothing, turned into a surprise invite to a New Year's Eve get-together at my friend Glenn's house. My friends Terri and Roger were nice enough to offer me a ride (since it's about -25 C outside at the moment), and also gave me my Christmas gifts from them -- a box of Morden's Russian Mints (a Winnipeg institution, with a hard-creamy chocolate mint filling, and sooooooo good) and the 2-DVD set of "The Tick" television series! Eeeeeee! And there was much rejoicing!

At Glenn's place, we pulled apart party crackers (my haul was a purple paper party hat and a little plastic kaleidoscope) and nibbled on crackers and koubasa, pickles and a shrimp ring, nanaimo bars and chocolate coconut puffs... I also tried a shot of Captain Morgan's spiced rum, which I'd HIGHLY recommend... whhooooo! Amazingly tasty, and quite a kick! We capped off an early end to the evening for Terri, Roger, and me (T & R had to be home at midnight to be with their teen-aged daughter for New Year celebrations), and I am currently sitting here typing, drinking hot Red Rose tea, and savoring those Russian Mints. Only in Canada, you say? Wa-hoo!

At times like this, I reflect on how lucky I am to have friends, good food, and a husband I love very much. So much to be grateful for.

What a year it's been.
