LiveJournal is now censoring popular interests

LiveJournal is now censoring popular interests, including "bisexuality", "depression", and "fanfiction".

Thank you, [livejournal.com profile] eastpath and hubby, for my beautiful paid account... but when it expires, I am SO out of here unless things change. I refuse to support a service that actively discriminates based on sexuality and mental health.

You know... why am I not surprised? Still, it enrages me.

Christ I hate this site more and more.

Can't they target just those embarassing teenagers who think being bisexual is TEH KEWLIEEZ!!!!!11111!!111 ? This is one of the reasons I consider myself bicelibate (ran across that term somewhere and latched onto it because it describes me perfectly) :: Sighs::

P.S. Please don't leave me here all alone on LJ. I really don't want to have to move, since I've had a lot of turmoil in my life lately and I need something to hang onto.

Don't worry -- I'm probably not going anywhere until my paid account runs out, at least, and that's not until December 20-something of 2008. At the very least I'd mirror posts from whatever new blog I set up onto this site and would still check my LJ regularly.

Hey.... I don't think that it is smart to censor interests either, however I don't think they are censoring them due to discrimination against sexuality or mental health, I think it more has to do with separating what you are interested in from what is actual. I know that makes no sense, however, what I'm trying to say is from one point of view if you put say "pedofilia" down as an interest, not because you were a pedophiliac, but because you have something to do with it in your past, or you are an advocate, or something they don't know that. They have to go on it as you being interested in things to do with that act and the legal issues involved.
If they limit interests to things that are non-inflammatory and easier to define then they can help curb the problems they are trying to prevent in the first place... I think they are trying to stop the things that started this whole mess awhile back with the fandoms and child porn and stuff like that... but really since I don't pay attention all that much I've no idea...

I am sufficiently rose-tinted in my view that I suspect they're doing this sort of thing to soothe advertisers.
